The Location of the Salto Grande Lake
Salto Grande is an impressive and beautiful locality located in the city of Concordia, in the province of Entre Ríos, Argentina. Its main attraction is the famous Salto Grande hydroelectric dam, which is situated on the Uruguay River, on the border between Argentina and Uruguay, where the fishing for the famous and enormous dorados takes place.
The location of Salto Grande is truly privileged. Surrounded by a natural environment of great beauty, it is located about 15 kilometers north of the center of the city of Concordia. The area is characterized by its extensive green areas, mighty rivers, and stunning landscapes. Its crystal-clear and pristine waters are home to an abundant population of trout, including rainbow trout and brown trout. These species find an ideal habitat in the river, ensuring an exciting and rewarding fishing experience for visitors.
The remote and secluded location of the Olnie Lake and River makes it a special destination. Far from the crowds and surrounded by pristine nature, it is the perfect setting for a peaceful and harmonious fishing experience in tune with the environment. Here, anglers can enjoy the tranquility and serenity of Patagonia while immersing themselves in the thrill of fishing in one of the region’s most beautiful rivers.
Fishing Location:
In the thrilling adventure of dorado fishing, the Salto Grande dam is the place to be, where only a very small group of nationally authorized companies can navigate and fish in its surroundings. The fishing location is a key element to ensure a successful and exciting experience. Each day, before setting out, careful planning is done, taking into account various factors such as winds, water levels, and other elements that can influence the behavior of dorados.
The expert fishing guides will thoroughly assess the environmental conditions to select the most promising fishing areas. These strategic points below the dam have become true stages where dorados offer a unique and fascinating spectacle.
The Salto Grande dam harbors privileged corners where dorados gather in search of food and challenges.
The currents and underwater structures present in these places create ideal conditions for dorados to thrive in abundance and showcase all their aggression and skill.

Our Fishing Equipmen
Some of our equipment and recommendations include:
• Fishing Rods:
Medium to heavy action rods, with a length of around 7 to 8 feet (2.1 to 2.4 meters).
Preferably made w0ith materials like carbon fiber or graphite, which provide strength and sensitivity.
• Reels:
Spinning or baitcasting reels are the most commonly used.
Choose a reel with good line capacity and a smooth yet strong braking system to handle the powerful pulls of the dorado.
• Lines:
Braided lines with high strength are recommended due to their durability and sensitivity.
Opt for lines with sufficient resistance capacity to face the strength of the dorado and avoid breakage.
Use a fluorocarbon leader of around 30 to 40 pounds (13.6 to 18.1 kg) to prevent the dorado’s teeth from cutting the main line.
• Lures:
Crankbaits: Sturdy-bodied lures with realistic and vibrant swimming action.
Jerkbaits: Slow-sinking lures that imitate the erratic movements of injured prey.
Spinnerbaits: Lures with rotating metallic blades that attract the attention of the dorado.
Swimbaits: Lures that mimic swimming fish, with a realistic appearance and action.
Opt for bright and eye-catching colors like gold, red, green, and orange, which attract the dorado’s attention in murky waters.
• Hooks and Baits:
Use hooks ranging from size 2/0 to 5/0, preferably made of corrosion-resistant steel.
You can use live baits such as minnows, eels, or small shads to attract dorados.
Artificial lures like spoons and jigs are also effective for dorado fishing.

Clothing
When it comes to fishing in Lake Strobel, Lake Olnie, or Salto Grande Dam, it's important to dress appropriately to be comfortable and protected during your fishing expedition. Here are some tips on what type of clothing to wear in this environment
- Layered clothing: Opt for dressing in layers, allowing you to adjust your attire according to changing
weather conditions. Start with a long-sleeved shirt or quick-drying shirt as a base layer, and then add a sweatshirt or fleece jacket as an intermediate layer. For the outer layer, choose a windbreaker or waterproof jacket to protect you from gusts of wind and possible rain. - Durable pants: Select durable and comfortable pants that allow for free movement. Trekking pants or fishing pants made from water-resistant and quick-drying materials are ideal to protect you from splashes and provide comfort during long fishing days.
- Appropriate footwear: Wear waterproof shoes or boots with non-slip soles to tackle the wet conditions of the lake. Ensure they are comfortable and provide good support for walking on uneven terrain.
- Hat and sunglasses: Shield your face and eyes from the sun by wearing a cap with a visor to prevent glare and protect against UV rays. Additionally, use polarized sunglasses to enhance your vision and safeguard your eyes from water reflection.
- Gloves: Consider wearing lightweight yet sturdy gloves to protect your hands from cold, wind, and contact with fish and gear. Fingerless or convertible gloves will allow dexterity for handling fishing equipment without sacrificing protection.
- Remember that the weather in Lake Strobel can be unpredictable, so it’s important to be prepared for any eventualities. Adapting your clothing to the weather conditions will enable you to enjoy a more comfortable and pleasant fishing experience.
