Forest perdiz hunting combines the tradition of hunting over pointing dogs with the excitement of fast shooting through natural woodland.
The hunt begins with the dog searching carefully through grass, brush, and scattered trees. Once it locates a bird, the dog holds its point while the guide and hunters move quickly and quietly into position.
The flush is sudden and unpredictable. The bird may rise through an opening, cross between the trees, or disappear into the vegetation within seconds.
There is little time to think. Success depends on instinctive shooting, quick reactions, and the ability to remain focused in challenging cover.
COMMON PERDIZ
Argentina’s Classic Upland Game Bird Known scientifically as the Spotted Nothura (Nothura maculosa), the common perdiz inhabits open grasslands, pastures, and agricultural fields. Its natural camouflage allows it to remain almost invisible until the pointing dog locates it. Once flushed, its sudden acceleration and fast, direct flight demand quick reactions and instinctive shooting.

Hunts are generally organized with two hunters, one guide, and a pointing dog, allowing every guest to remain close to the action while enjoying the camaraderie and friendly competition that make upland hunting so memorable.
Our private hunting areas include natural grasslands, open pastures, and alfalfa fields. Hunting locations are carefully selected and rotated according to field conditions, bird populations, weather, and the performance of each area.

Every hunting program is fully customizable according to your group’s preferences, desired species, flight connections, physical condition, and any additional activities you would like to include.
Guests may choose a dedicated forest perdiz program or combine this unique hunt with common perdiz, ducks, doves, pigeons, or big game—all while staying at La Paloma Lodge.
Our team will review the available domestic flights and recommend the most convenient travel option for your arrival and departure dates. Private ground transportation and direct charter flights may also be arranged.
THE ITINERARY
DAY 1
Arrival in Argentina and Transfer to the Lodge
Personalized reception at Ezeiza International Airport. Depending on your international arrival time, you may continue to Santa Rosa that same day or spend one night in Buenos Aires before traveling to La Pampa. Upon arrival in Santa Rosa, you will be transferred by private vehicle to La Paloma Lodge, located approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes from the airport. Your first evening will include a gourmet welcome dinner, premium beverages, and a complete briefing on your hunting program.
DAY 2 - 7
Forest Perdiz Hunting Days
Each hunting day begins with a complete breakfast before departing for one of our carefully selected forest perdiz areas. Hunters generally work in pairs accompanied by a professional guide and an expertly trained pointing dog. Before entering the field, the guide will explain the terrain, safe shooting zones, walking formation, and the best way to approach the dog when it holds a point. The dog will search through native woodland, grass-covered forests, and areas of natural scrub. Because the vegetation may be dense, hunters must remain close to the guide and be prepared to move quickly when the dog detects a bird. After the morning hunt, guests may return to the lodge for a chef-prepared lunch and time to relax or enjoy a traditional Argentine barbecue in the field. The afternoon may include another forest perdiz session or a customized combination of common perdiz, doves, pigeons, or ducks. Every evening concludes with gourmet cuisine, premium beverages, and stories shared by the fire.
DAY 8
Final Hunt and Departure
Enjoy breakfast followed by a final morning forest perdiz hunt. After the hunt, private transportation will be provided to Santa Rosa Airport, Ezeiza International Airport, or your selected hotel in Buenos Aires according to your departure itinerary.

The primary forest perdiz hunting season typically runs from May through August. These cooler months provide ideal conditions for walking through woodland and natural cover while hunting over trained pointing dogs. During the same period, guests may combine forest perdiz with common perdiz, ducks, pigeons, doves, and selected big game species. All hunts are organized according to current provincial regulations, authorized species, field conditions, and approved hunting areas.

SHOTGUNS
For bird hunting, we have new shotguns from the Benelli and Beretta brands, available in both 12 and 20 gauge. In addition to being able to attach stock extenders and customize them to your fit, we also have shotguns for left-handed shooters.
In the Benelli brand, we offer the M2 and M1 models.
In the Beretta brand, we have the A400 Xplor Kick Off model (this system reduces recoil by 70% when firing the shotgun).

Rancho Salvaje Safari manages the required hunting licenses and provincial permits for every guest. Before your arrival, our team will request the necessary personal information and documentation to ensure that everything is prepared for the beginning of your hunting program. We also provide guidance throughout the process of temporarily importing your personal shotgun into Argentina or arranging the rental of one of our lodge firearms.
